The 2024 edition of AI World, the premier AI conference in Korea co-hosted by Financial News and the Ministry of Science and ICT, will be held on September 5, 2024, at Lotte Cinema Seoul.

Celebrating its fifth year, AI World 2024 focuses on the theme of “​Unlimited Scalability.” It will gather distinguished scholars and experts in AI from both domestic and international backgrounds to explore and discuss the current state and future of AI, alongside emerging trends such as AI sovereignty, ethics, and multi-disciplinary convergence.

This year's AI World will coincide with Korea Blockchain Week (KBW) 2024, Asia's largest blockchain event, providing a platform to delve into the future of AI and blockchain. We invite you to show your interest and join us at this exciting event.

SY sold his first venture, Radish, the mobile serialized fiction app with millions of downloads across the globe, to Kakao Entertainment for $440M in 2021. Paolo Benanti Professor of Ethics of AI Gregorian University - Rome

Paolo Benanti, born in Rome (Italy), on 20 July 1973, has been a Franciscan of the Third Order Regular since 1999. His studies have included engineering (La Sapienza), as well as philosophy and theology (Lateran, Gregorian), with special interest in ethics and moral theology; his doctorate was in the area of bioethics. Professor of Moral Theology, Bioethics and Neuroethics at the Gregorian. Professor Jaeseung Jung is a faculty member at KAIST's Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences and Dean of the School of Transdisciplinary Studies. He is a bestselling author with over a million copies sold and a Nature-published scientist. He earned his bachelor's and master's in Physics at KAIST and a Ph.D. in complex systems science and brain modeling. After research roles at Yale and Columbia, he now focuses on decision-making neuroscience and brain-robot interfaces. He was named a 2009 Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum and has received the Korean Service Merit Medal. His works include The Science Concert and Twelve Footsteps.

Hwang, In Chul

He completed his Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science at KAIST in 1999, followed by a Master’s degree in 2001 and a Ph.D. in 2006, also from KAIST. In 2011, he was a Visiting Scholar at the MIT Media Lab. His professional experience began at Samsung Electronics, where he worked as a Senior Software Engineer from March 2006 to February 2014. He then advanced to the role of Principal Engineer at Samsung Electronics from March 2014 to December 2018. From December 2018 to February 2021, he served as CVP and Head of the AI Solution Team at Samsung Research. From February 2021 to November 2023, he was the CVP and Head of AI R&D in the MX (Mobile eXperience) Division at Samsung Electronics. Since November 2023, he has held the position of CEVP and Head of AI R&D in the same division.

Yoon, Hyun-Sang Head of AI Services Division at SKT, graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Seoul National University and completed the MBA program at Emory Goizueta Business School. Seyoung Lee, CEO of Wrtn Technologies, graduated from Yonsei University with a degree in Library and Information Science and founded Wrtn Technologies in 2021. From 2014 to 2020, he established and led the Korea Scholars' Conference for Youth (KSCY) and received the Talent Award of Korea in 2014. He has also been awarded the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Award, the Minister of SMEs and Startups Award, the Minister of Science and ICT Award, and the CES Innovation Award. Associate Professor Hyun Uk Kim is a faculty member at KAIST's Department of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering. He holds a bachelor's degree in Biotechnology from Yonsei University and a master's and Ph.D. in Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering from KAIST. From 2011 to 2013, he was a research fellow at KAIST's Bioinformatics Research Center and later served as a research assistant professor until 2018. Currently, he is an associate professor in the Department of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering and also teaches at the Graduate School of Engineering Biology at KAIST.

Taeyoung Shin, Professor at Ewha Womans University College of Medicine and CEO of Synergy A.I., is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Urology at Ewha Womans University Mokdong Hospital. His primary clinical areas include urologic oncology (prostate, kidney, bladder), robotic surgery, urinary stones, and non-surgical treatments (varicocele, benign prostatic hyperplasia). He earned his bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees from Inha University College of Medicine and has been an Associate Professor at Ewha Mokdong Hospital since 2020. Previously, he served as an Assistant Professor at Hallym University Chuncheon Sacred Heart Hospital and a Clinical Research Assistant Professor at Severance Hospital. His notable achievements include performing the world's first prostate artery embolization and Korea's first UroLift procedure. He has been recognized with several awards, including the Best Paper Award from the Korean Urological Association and the Best Poster Award at the European Association of Urology Robotic Surgery Congress.

Clayton Park

Yongmin Park is the leader of the AI Business Team at LG AI Research. He previously served as the leader of the Biotechnology Industry at Samsung SDS's AI Consulting Team and as the head of the Bioinformatics Lab at the Samsung SDS ICT Research Center. Additionally, he held the position of Systems Architecture Leader for Management Innovation at Samsung Electronics. At the Samsung SDS ICT Research Center, he was responsible for software within the Future Technology Strategy Group. He studied Economics at the Helsinki School and completed an MBA program.

Lim, Dae Geun

Daegeun Lim is the Dean of the College of Culture & Technology at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies. He also serves as the Director of the Institute of Taiwan Studies at the same university and is the CEO of the Asia Cultural Creativity Institute. Additionally, he is the Chairman of the Organizing Committee for the Jeonju International Short Film Festival, Vice President (and future President) of the Korea Cinema Association, and Editor- in-Chief of its journal. Kim, Duk Jin
Kim, Duk Jin Director, IT Communication LAB

Dukjin Kim is the Director of the IT Communication Research Institute and a professor at Sejong Cyber University and Kyung Hee University. He has served as Director of External Affairs for Blockchain Business at Chain Partners and was responsible for big data consulting at the Korea Insight Institute. Currently, he is the Director of Blockchain Business Strategy at AI3. He received a commendation from the Ministry of Agriculture's Citation for Digital Innovation in 2023 and from the Korea Communications Commission in 2018. His publications include AI 2024 Trends & Applications and The Era of AI: The Future of Humanity.

Lee, Jeong Soo
Lee, Jeong Soo Director of Business Development Office, DeepbrainAI

Director Jeong-Soo Lee oversees domestic sales at Deepbrain AI, where he is expanding the company's business in generative AI across the top five domestic banks, government agencies, and 200 B2B clients. Since 2021, he has been managing the commercialization and planning of deepfake detection solutions. In 2022, he led the first commercialization of a deepfake detection solution for government agencies in collaboration with the National Police Agency. He has also filed patents related to deepfake detection, including "System and Method for Fake Analysis Using Behavioral Pattern Analysis" and "AI-Based Voice Detection Server and Method." Recently, he has been planning and expanding the Rememory2 (posthumous restoration business) which restores deceased individuals from a single photo and a 10-second audio recording, targeting memorial services and tribute parks.

Song, William Jinho
Song, William Jinho Professor, Yonsei University

William J. Song is currently an Associate Professor at the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Yonsei University. He earned his Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Georgia Tech. His research interests include computer architecture and systems, GPU microarchitecture, memory systems, deep learning accelerators, and power and reliability management techniques. He was a senior engineer at Intel in Santa Clara, CA, and also was a graduate research intern at Qualcomm, IBM TJ Watson, AMD Research, and Sandia National Labs. He received an SRC/IBM Graduate Fellowship, IRPS Best Student Paper Award, Distinguished Faculty Award, and Teaching Excellence Award from Yonsei University. He served as a TPC/ERC member of top-tier computer architecture and system conferences, including ISCA, HPCA, and DAC.

Choi, Jang Seok

Jangseok Choi (JS Choi) is corporate VP at Samsung Semiconductor, Inc. where he is in charge of the new business development team. His team is responsible for defining and developing new products and markets such as CXL based Memory and Storage solution, New Memory products optimized for Chiplet architecture and Peta Byte scale storage solution. One of significant products that his team achieved is CXL Memory Module that announced as the world first product. During more than 23 years in Samsung, Jangseok has been responsible for product and technology enablement activities involving DDR3, DDR4, LP DDR3, LP DDR4, LP DDR5/5X and HBM (High Bandwidth Memory) as well as product definition and market development related to future DRAM solutions as member of product planning team after serving four years in high speed memory design such as Rambus DRAM.

Dr. Yoonseok Jung is the Chief Strategy Officer at Rebellions, leading product roadmap, go-to-market strategy, and strategic alliances in the Gen AI service market and semiconductor value chain. A former Bain & Company manager, he specialized in new biz strategy for big tech and M&A across various sectors. He holds PhD in Applied Physics, MA in Statistics from Harvard University, and BS in Electrical Engineering from Seoul National University.

Jang, Bong Gyu
Jang, Bong Gyu Professor, POSTECH

Bong-Gyu Jang is a Professor at POSTECH's Department of Industrial and Management Engineering and holds multiple leadership roles, including Director of the Research Institute of Finance & Risk Management, Director of the Hana-POSTECH Techfin Industry-Academia Research Center, and Director of the KB-POSTECH Digital Innovation Research Center. He also serves on the Risk Management Committee for the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's Radioactive Waste Management Fund. He has received numerous awards, including the 2018 Hyunwoo Kwak Soo-il Management Science Award and several Best Paper Awards from the Korean Real Estate Information Association in 2017, the Korean Insurance Academic Society in 2017, and the Korean Financial Management Association in 2016. His research focuses on asset allocation, asset valuation, credit risk, bonds, derivatives, lifecycle asset management, and insurance/pensions, with over 50 published papers and more than 100 presentations at academic conferences, including the American Finance Association, Korean Finance Association, and Korean Securities Association.

Kim, Jun Hwan
Kim, Jun Hwan Senior Director and Head of the Digital Innovation Division at Shinhan Bank

Junhwan Kim, Senior Director and Head of the Digital Innovation Division at Shinhan Bank, holds a bachelor's degree in Precision Engineering from KAIST and completed the Advanced Management Program (AMP) at Seoul National University in 2022. In 2011, he received the Most Cited Paper Award for his work in computer-aided design. From 2003 to 2006, he worked as a researcher at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in the United States. He then served as Development Director at NMI Korea from 2006 to 2009 and as a Senior Researcher at Samsung Electronics’ Manufacturing Technology Center and as an Executive Researcher at Global Technology Center from 2010 to 2016. From 2016 to 2020, he was Senior Director of Platform 1 Group at SK C&C. He currently serves as Head of the Digital Part at Shinhan Financial Group and Head of the Digital Innovation Division at Shinhan Bank.

Hong, Yoong Gi
Hong, Yoong Gi Director, AI Asset Management Center of KB Kookmin Bank

Yoongki Hong, Senior Director of Kookmin Bank's AI Asset Management Center, holds degrees in Economics and Mathematics from the University of Minnesota and a master's in Economics from Yale University, with doctoral studies completed at the University of Cambridge. From April 2010 to August 2015, he served as Head of Quantitative Management at Samsung Asset Management. From January 2021 to December 2023, he was the Head (Executive VP) of the AI & ETF Division at KB Asset Management. Currently, as of January 2024, he holds the position of Senior Director at the AI Asset Management Center of Kookmin Bank.

Koo, Taeeon

Attorney Taeeon Koo is a member of the Presidential Committee on the Digital Platform Government, the Prime Minister’s Regulatory Innovation Committee, and the Economic Regulation Innovation Task Force. He is also a member of the Minister of SMEs and Startups' Policy Advisory Committee. Koo is on the advisory board for the Digital Asset Exchange in Busan, is a director and operations committee member of the Korea Startup Forum, Chair of the Regulatory Innovation Committee at the Sharing Economy Association of Korea, a director at the Korea Blockchain Industry Promotion Association, and Vice President of both the Korea Blockchain Law Society and the Korean Association for AI and Law. In 2021, he received the Presidential Citation for Venture Startup Promotion.

Kim, Bon Hwan

Bonhwan Kim is the CEO of Law&Company, having previously served as Director at WiseStorm and CEO at Solving&Consulting Group. He co-chairs the Legal Tech Industry Council at the Korea Startup Forum and is Vice President of the Korea Venture Business Association. Kim has been honored with several awards, including the '2023 IT Service Innovation Award' from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the '2023 Venture Startup Promotion Award' from the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, the Prime Minister's Award at the 18th Korea Internet Awards, and the Presidential Citation on 'Science and ICT Day 2024.

Lee, Gene
Lee, Gene CEO, LBox

Gene Lee, CEO of LBox, graduated from Yonsei University Law School in 2008 and completed an MBA at UC Berkeley in 2019. After passing the 47th National Bar Exam in 2005, he completed the 38th Judicial Research and Training Institute program in 2009. From 2009 to 2012, he served as a military judge in the Air Force Military Court. He then worked as an attorney at Kim & Chang from 2012 to 2017.

Yang, Seung Do
Yang, Seung Do SA Leader, Cross Enterprise, AWS

SeungDo Yang is in charge of the Cross Enterprise Solutions Architect organization at Amazon Web Services (AWS) Korea. He joined Amazon Web Services as a Solutions Architect (SA) in 2013 and collaborated with the AWS sales team and other teams to promote customers' business innovation using the cloud. He covers a wide range of domains from startups to enterprise customers, helping to formulate and execute strategies for cloud adoption. Most recently, he has been leading AWS's cross enterprise SA organization, sharing his experience to help more customers create best practices for business innovation with AWS. He started his IT career as a developer and has worked for 27 years as a system engineer and solutions architect in global IT companies (Red Hat, Oracle, VMware, Google, AWS), and expanding into open source, Linux, virtualization and cloud computing.

Park, Jin Yong

Jinyong Park is the Senior Vice President in charge of AI and DX (Digital Transformation) at LG Chem HQ. He oversees company-wide AI and DX initiatives and is a member of the LG Group CDO Council, the Industrial ML Board of Advisory, and the LG Group AI Committee. From 2011 to 2020, he led AI, ML, and DT strategy and implementation consulting for major clients, including Lotte Distribution Group (Department Stores/eCommerce/Membership), Hyundai Marine & Fire Insurance, Shinsegae Department Store, Hyundai Asan Medical Center, and Korea Marine Transport Co.

Kim, Jin Yong
Kim, Jin Yong Pre-Sales Manager, GCore

Jinyong Kim, originally a Unix systems engineer, has been contributing to the development and spread of virtualization in Korea since 2004 as a VMware virtualization architect. He was the first to introduce reverse virtualization solutions to Korea and, as a solution architect for Graphcore IPU, pioneered new directions in the field of machine learning. Currently, he is the Pre-Sales Team Lead at Gcore, where he is driving innovation with EdgeNW, EdgeCloud, and EdgeAI.

Kim, Ig Jae
Kim, Ig Jae Director-General, AI & Robotics Institute of KIST

Ig-Jae Kim is currently serving as the Director-General of the KIST AI & Robotics Institute at KIST and is researching the necessary technologies for a society where humans and robots coexist. In particular, he is interested in the field of understanding scenes and detecting abnormal situations based on AI technology, and generative AI technology that recognizes and changes human’s faces. He currently serves as a full-time professor of AI & robotics at Korea University of Science and Technology and an adjunct professor at Korea University.

Seungmin Baek is the Director and Senior Vice President of the Robot Advanced Research Institute at LG Electronics. He has held postdoctoral positions at Nagoya University and the LASEA Research Institute and served as a research professor at Sungkyunkwan University. He also worked as a senior researcher in the HCI and MI Groups at LG Electronics. His research focuses on robot navigation, manipulation, cognition, software platforms, computer vision, and intelligence. He awards include the Korea Robotics Society Technical Award, the IR52 Jang Young Shil Award, the Ministry of Knowledge Economy's Intelligent Robot Technology Award, and LG Electronics R&D Differentiated Technology Award.

Yoon, Suk June is the Head of the Robotics Automation Center at POSCO DX. He earned his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from KAIST. From 2005 to 2011, he worked as a Senior Engineer at Samsung Electronics' Global Technology Research Center, followed by roles as a Senior Researcher at Samsung SAIT and Head of the Robotics Automation Center at POSCO DX. He also served as an Executive Director in the Robotics Business Division at POSCO DX. Since 2023, he has been leading the Robotics Automation Center at POSCO DX, is a joint professor at POSTECH, and is a board member of the Korea Association of Robot Industry.
