Intro
As the commercialization of 5 Generation (5G) mobile communication is approaching within a year, the 4th industrial revolution, has already been triggered by the concepts of the artificial intelligence (AI), robots, autonomous vehicles, blockchains, and internet of Things (IoT). The idea of the 5G is not far away from where we are and is gradually coming to our lives.
Expectations for the changes in our lives affected by 5G is being amplified, but we also have concerns about the social problems caused by security matters and etc. As autonomous vehicles are based on mobile communications, it canalso cause serious safety problem, such as minor error in network or hacking.
As a result, the world's ICT industry is now preparing to face the safe era of the 4th industrial revolution by means of quantum cryptography, blockchains, and among.
At the 9th Future ICT Forum, we plan to prospect how the 5G, which already has come in front of our sight, will deeply penetrate into our lives and make some changes in industries. In this wave of rapid changes, we will also viewwhat kind of new opportunities that our manufacturing industry could catch. Lastly we will also look for ways to handle the future that will be triggered by 5G, so that the future can act as an opportunity rather than a crisis for human.

Over the past decade, Futurist Thomas Frey has built an enormous following around the world based on his ability to develop accurate visions of the future and describe the opportunities ahead. Having started seventeen businesses himself and assisting on the development of hundreds more, the understanding he brings to his audiences is a rare blend of reality-based thinking coupled with a clear-headed visualization of the world ahead. Predicting the future has little value without understanding the driving forces behind the trends, subtle nuances that can be leveraged, and implications for both the people directly affected in the industry as well as others farther down the technological food chain. Before launching the DaVinci Institute, Tom spent 15 years at IBM as an engineer and designer where he received over 270 awards, more than any other IBM engineer. He is also a past member of the Triple Nine Society (High I.Q. society over 99.9 percentile).

“Johnny” John David Kim is Strategic Engagement Director and Head of North East Asia at the GSMA. In this role, he is responsible for engaging with GSMA mobile operator members, ecosystem partners and government/policy-makers in the Asia Pacific Region. His activities involve working closely with these organisations to introduce, implement and execute GSMA initiatives/programmes to foster innovative business/commercial strategies, new technology adoption/commercialization and general policy and regulatory developments across a range of topics such as IoT, 4G evolution to 5G, VoLTE Interconnection, VoLTE Roaming, RCS, and New Regulatory Framework etc. With over 20 years of research and consulting experience in the ICT and Telecoms industry in North East Asia, Johnny has executed and directed major research and consulting studies for MNOs, vendors and government/regulatory organisations. Prior to joining the GSMA, he worked as Regional Head /Managing Director for a research and consulting company specializing in providing advice related to ICT technology commercialization, commercial strategy and policy & regulatory issues. Johnny completed studies in Science and Business/Marketing at the University of Melbourne and Swinburne University of Technology, respectively and has also completed postgraduate studies in Economics and Applied Information Systems. As of September 2017, Johnny also holds the position of Adjunct Professor at Yonsei University Graduate School of Information in Seoul, Korea.

Dr. Kim is Executive Vice President at KT where he is head of Economics and Management Research Institute, an in-house management consulting organization. Last year he co-authored two books, The Fourth Industrial Revolution, a Korean Way and The 10 ICT Trends That Will Transform Korea in 2018, reflecting recent areas of research at his organization. In the former book, he argues that the ICT-based Fourth Industrial Revolution (to much more extent than what mankind experienced in the previous industrial revolutions) is a two-edged sword that involves the risk of aggravating economic and social inequality (due to the ‘skill-biased’ nature of recent technologies) as well as the opportunities of empowering human beings enabled by ICT (AI and 5G mobile networks in particular), proposing big public-private partnerships (a Digital New Deal) directed at solving social problems and making the upcoming transformation benefit all by means of ICT. Prior to joining KT in 2011, Dr. Kim was a Senior Research Fellow at the Korea Information Society Development Institute (KISDI) (1995-2010). (KISDI is a government-sponsored research institute specializing in ICT policy.) During his career at KISDI, he authored numerous policy reports and was actively engaged in the government’s policy making for telecom regulation and ICT industry development. He also published several scholarly articles in peer-reviewed journals including the Review of Network Economics, Information Economics and Policy, Economics Letters, and Telecommunications Policy. He obtained his B.A. in Economics from Korea University in 1986 and his Ph.D. in Economics from UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles) in 1992.
