Financial News has been hosting the annual Seoul International Food Forum to promote
the development of the global food industry and the globalization of ‘K-Food.’
The theme of the 8th Seoul International Food Forum that is to be held this year is ‘Food
Industry Overcoming the Pandemic’, so that participants may get a glimpse of the crisis
strategy that Korean food companies are coping with COVID-19 Pandemic.
As the food distribution industry goes global, now there is no border in the international
food distribution structure. Now, foods that have been produced from the other side of
the globe are being served on our table. With this, the world food market is in middle of
seeing some fierce competition between food companies across the world to ensure the
distribution network.
And a variety of food products are sweeping the entire global distribution network as
HMR(Home Meal Replacement) or frozen foods. The HMR shows exponential growth
amid the spread of telecommuting in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis.
Besides, the number of households with one or more pets is increasing rapidly, making
the pet food market a new attractive area for the industry. With the spread of telecommuting,
more people get to spend more time at home with their pets. And, it is believed that this trend
will further facilitate the popularity of higher-quality pet food products in the market.
The Food Forum of this year will be held on the next day after the General Election on April
15th, which is a one-week postponement from the original schedule. Also, to prevent an
epidemic of the COVID-19, we decided not to hold the food fair outside of the venue. While
the situation with COVID-19 in South Korea seems to be lightening up, we will take all
precautionary measures for the safety of everyone who is joining the event by checking the
body temperature and so on.
