Intro
What would life look like in a world where people cannot contact each other? In the movie
“Five Feet Apart”, Stella and Will, who suffered from cystic fibrosis, must keep a safe distance
of six feet at the hospital. If they infect each other, their lives can be in a danger.
Nevertheless, the two who were attracted to each other took courage and get close to one foot.
It’s a touching movie that shows an extreme case of non-contact.
Like this movie, “the world of *Untact” is being held, where daily life takes place
without face-to-face or contact between people, whether they are willing or not.
In the era of the 4th industrial revolution, high-tech technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI),
robots, the Internet of Things (IoT), tech fin, cloud, delivery applications, and 5G are making
the untact world possible. In addition, the COVID-19, which is terrorizing the world, is accelerating
the evolution into the untact world under the recognition of ‘contact = infection’.
In an actual hospital, robots are in charge of checking temperatures and sample collection.
At home, we order food through a delivery application. At work, the face-to-face meeting disappeared.
In coffee shops, robot baristas take orders. Convenience stores are opened without employees.
Financial investment and insurance can also be handled conveniently by mobile. Students study
at home with video lectures without going to the academy. It allows interviewees to do online
interview without going to the company, and recruitment briefings are also held online.Seoul National University’s Consumer Trend Analysis Center ranked ‘Untact Marketing’ as one of
the major consumer trends in 2018. In the initial un-tact economy, simple non-face-to-face tasks
such as kiosks (unmanned sales stands), unmanned vending machines or cafés,
and mobile finance were mainstream. It was simply a form of reducing the workforce and workflow.
Currently, the un-tact economy is undergoing a major transition.
In particular, contact technology is spreading to all industries. Untact services have become an indispensable tool for all types of industries including entertainment, education, finance, and delivery.
Furthermore, it is developing to analyze the consumption patterns of users based on artificial
intelligence (AI).
Another name of this crisis is Opportunity. Ironically, the COVID-19 from China has served as an unprecedented negative factor for the global economy, but it is seen as a new opportunity
for the untact economy. In other words, online and mobile-oriented non-face-to-face services are spreading, while face-to-face services are decreasing. According to the app-based data analysis
service ‘Appminder’, the use of untact-related apps such as Baedal’s Minjok, Yogiyo,
and Coupang increased significantly before and after the outbreak of COVID-19.
A company at home and abroad are also making contactless work routine. Companies are free
to work in contact with high-speed 5G networks and cloud computing networks.
The education sector is also shifting its direction around untact technology.
On June 18, the Financial News will co-host the 11th Future ICT Forum with the Ministry of Science
and ICT under the theme of “Into the Untact” at the Grand Ballroom of the Westin Chosun Hotel
in Seoul. We look forward to your participation in the untact world of knowledge exploration.
