Introduction
In recent years, the digital transformation of the insurance industry has led to
the emergence of insurTech, the use of information and communication technologies (ICT)
to add value to the insurance industry. The digitalization of the insurance value chain,
either in part or in its entirety, and the addition of new value-added products and services
to the existing insurance products also provide more options for consumers. Armed with new technologies,
the insurance industry is now transforming itself, rather than simply working to satisfy consumers.
Today, insurance companies are no longer selling traditional health insurance policies.
They are offering personalized health management services based on a combination of customers'
electronic health information and artificial intelligence.
InsurTech, which provides innovative insurance products and services and is leading
the digital transformation of the insurance industry, is increasing not only in the insurance industry
but also in the financial investment industry. In fact, global investment in insurTech has grown
nearly 100-fold from $100 million in 2009 to $10 billion in 2022.
Because insurTech works in synergy with existing insurance rather than competing with it,
active investment in insurTech-driven digital transformation will yield greater benefits for both businesses
and consumers.
It is against this backdrop that the Financial News and the Korea Insurance Research Institute are cohosting
the 16th Global Insurance Symposium under the banner of "Insurance Ecosystem Innovation by InsurTech "
on November 8 at the Westin Josun Seoul. Join us for insights from some of the brightest minds
from home and abroad on breakthroughs for the insurance industry using insurTech,
success stories of local and international insurTech companies,
and the direction of Korea, an insurTech wasteland.
