The fastest-spreading content format today is undoubtedly short-form.
Once confined to platforms like TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts, short-form content is now reshaping the content industry landscape across production and distribution. It has gone beyond YouTubers and TikTokers giving rise to a new category altogether: the short-form creator.
But short-form is more than just “short videos.” It has emerged as a core driver of innovation across the entire content lifecycle from planning and production to distribution and consumption. Particularly for Gen Z and Gen Alpha, it has become the primary channel for daily media consumption, prompting content companies to rethink and restructure their business models. This shift suggests that short-form content isn’t just influencing Korea’s video industry, but becoming a strategic asset capable of redefining K-content’s position in the global content market.
According to the 2024 Online Video Service Usage Survey by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Creative Content Agency, 69.6% of users on free OTT platforms (e.g., YouTube) watch short-form content. Notably, 78.6% of respondents preferred original short-form content planned and produced specifically for the format outpacing the 59.7% who favor edited clips from longer videos. This reflects the rise of short-form not merely as a trend, but as a transformative force in content consumption.
Now in its 12th year, the ‘Korea Content Forum’ will have an in-depth discussion on the changes and future potential brought about by short-form content under the theme “Strategies for K-Content Innovation in the Age of Short-Form.”
Leading companies representing the short-form production and distribution ecosystem including TikTok Korea, WHYNOT Media, SOON ENT and NewUniverse will participate to share first-hand experiences and real-world case studies, from planning stages to monetization strategies.
The ‘2025 Korea Content Forum’ will offer a meaningful opportunity to explore how the compressed format of short-form can lead the future of Korea’s content industry and how K-content can leverage this momentum to take another step on the global stage.
